Swiss Nylon Polymer
FLEX Frames
Technologically advanced materials
like Grilamid TR-90 have been developed to answer the need for lightweight and
durable frames that offer optical quality not typically associated with typical
injection plastics. This new technology has made it possible to make great
looking frames that can, in many cases accommodate prescription lenses. A new
material, Grilamid TR-90, is a Swiss Nylon Polymer that is melted and
then poured into optical quality stainless steel molds. fronts and temples are
produced separately. Once removed from the molds, they are hand polished and
assembled before the lenses are fitted. The temple tips and nose pieces of many
Grilamid TR-90 frames are made from optical grade rubber to add comfort and
prevent slippage during strenuous activity. The end result is a frame that is
lightweight, yet extremely durable and flexible.
Composite Shock Frames
Our Composite Shock Frames are used to create a low mass / low inertia frame
which will not bounce or shift during athletic activity. Our Eyewear is
built to meet the toughest challenges of competition and active life-styles.
Composite Shock Frames are extremely durable to withstand the rugged demands
of active sports. Lightweight frames are designed for long wearing comfort
and to absorb punishment.
Xtreme Lens Technology
Blocks glare without changing color perception. Multi-Color flash mirror
coatings reflect light creating anti-glare viewing. Xtreme Lens Technology
creates smoke grey viewing on the inside and Xtreme Lens Technology
Multi-Color flash on the outside. Scratch resistant.
Polycarbonate Lenses
Our shatterproof polycarbonate lenses are optically correct for zero
distortion to provide outstanding optical performance and enhanced vision in
any lighting condition. Polycarbonate is the newest development in lens
materials. It is a type of LEXAN® from G.E., the same material used for
bullet resistant glass in autos. It is such hard material that a special
diamond grinding wheel must be used to cut the lens. To form the glasses the
material is melted and then force injected into a special mold. The
polycarbonate material is naturally UV absorbing, so even the clear lenses
are 100% Ultraviolet protected. Polycarbonate in certain glasses is actually
approved for use as safety glasses. Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight,
durable, impact-resistant and the most scratch-resistant of the plastics.
They are virtually break proof. Polycarbonate eyewear is the only approved
eye protection for most major Police & Fire Departments. Our Sunglasses are
warranted by the manufacturer to meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1, ANSI Z87.3 and
OSHA Safety Standards. These standards are applicable to U.S. Government
standards for ultraviolet protection and impact resistance.
Venting Systems
Our Venting Systems incorporates exhaust vents into some of their lenses and
frame designs to enhance air-flow and virtually eliminate fog and
condensation. This design feature allows maximum ventilation while blocking
extraneous incoming light.
Nose Grips
Our nose grips create a non-slip grip that keeps our sunglasses securely in
place during athletic activity. This self-adjusting material ensures a soft
feel and custom fit regardless of head shape or size.
Temples / Earstems
The temples on our models are curved to shadow the contours of your head
without putting pressure on your temples. Most are then wrapped in a
non-slip material to ensure they stay securely and comfortably on your head.
This advanced anatomical design ensures a secure fit with exceptional
comfort.
Better Durability and a quality Spring Temples with most all our wire
and rimless frames
Lens Tints and Coatings
Smoke, Gray and Gray-Green tints... The most common type of lens color. They
are effective at blocking glare without changing color perception, making
them a good choice for all-weather use.
Amber, or Brown lens tints... Especially good at blocking the blue light
commonly found in diffused light such as one might experience on a cloudy
day. Amber can improve both contrast and depth perception, and is a good
all-around choice if you live in an area with changeable weather patterns.
Yellow or Amber tints...Improve contrast and give a sensation of heightened
visual acuity. So-called "Driving" lenses are usually amber or yellow-brown.
UV Protection
Our Eyewear provides the industry standard UV 400 eye protection. All of our
Eyewear is warranted by the manufacturer to meet or exceed applicable U.S.
Government standards for ultraviolet protection and impact resistance.
Total UV Protection... Innovative, High Tech Coatings Provide Better
Protection From UV, Infrared, Blue Light, Glare, Back Reflections.
Significantly Improves Contrast, Clarity And Comfort!
Best Combination of Features
Our Sunglasses is the first to offer all of the above features in special
combinations. Producing a significantly better sunglass. We established new
standards for sunglass performance, pricing and remains a technically
advanced sunglass.
Storage
It's always best to place your sunglasses in a case when you aren't wearing
them. Not only will it help in preventing them from becoming scratched, but it
will also protect
them from accidentally breaking, like someone sitting on them.
Avoid placing your glasses without a case in your purse or pocket. Keys or
combs can easily scratch them.
Cleaning
Clean dust and lint from your lenses with a soft cloth. An excellent
suggestion is the Micro Fiber cloth, which we stock in all of our stores.
Using a Micro Fiber Cloth will ensure that the lenses do not become
scratched
More Technical Information
Unless we
experience eye pain or vision problems, most of us take seeing for granted.
But vision is a remarkably complex process: your eyes are constantly moving
and changing to adjust to the conditions in front of them. When they are
forced to cope with adverse conditions such as strong ultraviolet radiation
or glare from bright sunlight, your pupils contract and your eyelids squint.
It's no wonder that many people experience eye strain, vision-related
headaches or various eye diseases at one time or another.
Sunglasses can
reduce or eliminate many of the problems caused by over-exposure to bright
sunlight and ultraviolet radiation. Lenses with appropriate tints can
selectively block the wavelengths of light that cause most vision problems,
protecting the wearer from cataracts and other eye problems.
Types of
Lenses:
Acrylic:
Probably the most commonly used lens material, acrylic lenses are
lightweight and relatively inexpensive to produce. Acrylic is available in
both tinted and mirrored lenses, and is also used clear, for reading glasses
and goggles. "AC" and "CR39®" are types of acrylic.
Polycarbonate:
(What we use in the majority of our sunglasses at
BoulderShades.com)
Most often found in top-quality sports glasses, polycarbonate lenses are
lightweight, impact-resistant and the most scratch-resistant of the
plastics. The "bullet-proof" plastic known as LEXAN® is a type of
polycarbonate.
Glass:
Optical-quality glass lenses are ground and polished to the precise
thickness necessary to provide minimal distortion and maximum clarity. The
hardness of glass makes it the most scratch-resistant lens material
presently in use. Glass is also the heaviest lens material.
Polarized: When sunlight bounces off a
reflective surface such as glass, water or snow, the result is glare. Glare can
be much brighter than the light that caused it, and can irritate or even damage
the unprotected eye. Polarized lenses block vertically-reflected light by
horizontally aligning the crystalline structure of the lens. This makes them
ideally suited for use around water, and for driving.
Polarized - Multi-Layer Filtration
Our high definition polarized Multi-Layer
Filtration lenses are one piece, distortion free, ophthalmic quality, and high
tech polycarbonate. There are no laminates to separate and nothing to degrade
the polarization as with laminated films. Laminated polarized lenses can
delaminate due to faulty bonding, aging and exposure to heat. Our Multi-Layer
Filtration is distributed evenly throughout the lens and not laminated to the
lens as found on inferior polarized lenses. Our Polarized Multi-Layer Filtration
lenses block vertically-reflected light by horizontally aligning the crystalline
structure of the lens. This makes them ideally suited for use around water,
snow, and for driving. Avoid cheap polarized glasses, because hazy lenses may
result in eye strain.
99.9% without distortions or irregularities that are common in less quality
glass or plastic lenses. Plastic lenses bend when held tightly by frames.
This bends the polarized light filter. Variations can be extreme,
significantly reducing the effective polarization. This is common with CR-39
plastic lenses.
We use only the clearest, optical quality, polarized light filters. Less
quality filters have inherent haziness or impurities that reduce optical
clarity as well as adversely affect polarization.
Mirror or Peralized Lenses are good at
blocking glare without changing color perception. Quality mirror coatings are
effective.
